197 kgs of leaf litter in BEMP’s 20 year history!

March Monthly Monitoring was a great success! Here you can see BEMP Biologist Sean O’Neill discussing how the river has changed in the last 20 years with Cottonwood Valley Charter School students. This month we also added up all our leaf litter data and found out that BEMP has so far, in the last ~20 years, collected 434 lbs or 197 kilograms of leaf litter across the BEMP sites! When a single cottonwood leaf weighs about 0.1 gram, you can see just how much leaf litter we’ve collected, sorted, and weighed over the years. Both scientists and students help sort and weigh leaf litter and its no small task to keep up with 10 bags of leaf litter from every site (32 of them!) every month! Go Team!
