This June, BEMP hosted several Teacher Training opportunities for enthusiastic teachers in our community. Colin DeGroot (Milken Educator of the Year ’15) ran a POWER and ENERGY workshop for science teachers around Albuquerque. He enlisted the BEMP Education Team to run a workshop about how some of BEMP’s protocols can be translated to local schoolyards. BEMP did a training for Advanced Placement Environmental Science teachers discussing our involvement with Nature’s Notebook. We also talked about how easy it is to set up pitfall traps with students. Jordy Hicks, HS Env. Science teacher from Albuquerque and former UNM BEMP Intern, found an amazing gopher snake during the workshop!

BEMP Monthly Monitoring teachers also had a chance to come out and go over BEMP’s field protocols in great detail. They heard from Dr. Eichhorst about the latest BEMP findings – which you can read more about in the US Army Corps of Engineers Report. They also learned about Nature’s Notebook and some of the other educational curriculum BEMP is developing for next school year.

Thank you to everyone who came out to the bosque with BEMP!
